If you are of senior years you may have noticed, as I have, that you can't buy a pair of long lasting work boots any more. Didn't they use to last 5 years? At some point they suddenly became really expensive, felt like plastic bags on your feet and let the rain in within 12 months….. For a while now I've been telling people to see "The Story of Stuff" by Annie Leonard, but till this morning hadn't seen it myself ( however I knew she was really good). It explains "the work boots phenomena" and many others. Don't want to sound preachy here but every man, woman and especially child should see this vid, particularly in the lead up to Christmas. Makes you feel like sewing some shoes from environmentally tanned sheep skins. Hey there's an idea for our next Gourmet Gardner weekend!

OUTRAGE! Collie Urea plant gets federal approval
Please consider the following from Barry Green, Tourist Radio: The approval of a urea plant at Collie makes no sense, at a time when our government claims to be concerned about CO2 emissions, this is the worst thing they could do. Use of artificial nitrogen is a symptom of a failing agricultural system. The manufacturing process releases carbon dioxide and when applied to the soil it burns of soil organic matter, releasing further carbon dioxide and further degrading the soil. Read more
